Social Game Villes We'd Love To See

Management games like FishVille and Restaurant City follow a basic set of rules. Make things, maintain things, sell things and add new friends in order to grow your in-game virtual fortunes. It's an easy set to apply to nearly everything. Already there are farm games (FarmVille, Country Story), aquarium games (Happy Aquarium, FishVille, My Fishbowl), mafia games (Mobsters 2, Mafia Wars) , pet games (Pet Society) and foodie games (Restaurant City and Cafe World). But there are all sorts of other real-life concepts that could easily be applied to the "management game" model. Here are just a few ideas that we thought were so good, we even checked to see if the trademarks were available:

    ZooVille (Trademark available!)

Players might start out with a zoo animal of their choice. From there, they could choose to have a cage style zoo or even create a massive wildlife reserve where the people drive around in cages for protection. Of course, players make money per exhibit, zoo-themed food, new attractions like penquin exhibits and more.

    ChurchVille (Trademark available!)
Looking to start your own church or even your own religion? Gather your flock and their tax-free donations as you create a small church with simple pews, wall hangings and ceremonial items. Then as the flock turns into a herd, players will build bigger churchs and eventually a faith-based network of churches.

    BandVille (Trademark available)
Build a band from the best players, book shows, manage roadies and merchandise for an early band of your creation. Choose friends who master skills for guitar, drum, bass, vocals or other instruments as you eventually booking tours, album releases, fans, rehab and more.

    SimsVille (Trademark abandoned in 2002)
While EA owns The Sims and it did work on a game called SimsVille that never released (FYI: the associate producer for the defunct game, Virginia McArthur now works at Zynga). Now that the trademark is available, players of the game might hone the skills of their on-screen selves as they interact with friends, neighbors, pets and the occasional police raid. Experience points would also come from the strength of your friend network. Imagine a virtual game about your real life social networking skills... I smell a paradox!

    BarVille (Trademark available)
Finally, you could manage your very own house of libations. Stock the bar with top and bottom shelf liquors, add staff to manage tables and orders, create nightly specials, book cover bands, laugh at comedians and occasionally escort out those who may have stayed too long. From Irish pubs to trendy joints to Coyote Ugly, BarVille would offer accessories and options that would cater to anyone's tastes, as long as they have the money.

    Give Us Credit
If you use any of the ideas, make sure you tell us first! We'd love to hear about how we might create the next social game. of course, what Villes would you like to see?

Sneak Peek: Cafe World's Thanksgiving Menu Items

With three hours remaining in the Cafe World's Super Slider event, fans were already wondering about the Thanksgiving menu items that Games.com confirmed were coming soon after the event. Last night, the team behind the Facebook social networking game gave fans a glimpse of two items: a turkey and a cornucopia.

No other details were given about when the two items (or additional menu items) may show up. Historically, new Cafe World items do tend to show up on Thursday so players may see them later on today today.

Sneak Peek at New Cafe World Decor

Once the Super Sliders event in Cafe World finishes by tomorrow, cafe owners will get four new decoration options for their joints. While the four new options seem to lack an all-enveloping theme, covering nature-themes with a volcano or a waterfall; classic restaurant ambiance with rustic fireplace and ending with Chinese-themed dragon column, there something for nearly everyone.

One Billion Super Sliders Served in Cafe World

In the world of burgers, there's only one measure of success. One billion. Today Cafe World chefs have cooked over one billion Super Sliders. The new menu option is part of a special event where players get to serve burgers that take 5 minutes to cook and never spoil. But Super Sliders, a reward for the one millionth fan of the Cafe World page on Facebook, is only available for 48 hours.

Unlike the first billion burger maker, McDonald's, Cafe World got to that sacred number in about 16 hours. With just under 30 hours remaining in the Super Sliders event, it's time to serve a few billion more.

Cafe World Serving Super Sliders Today

ReTired of cooking stacks of Bacon Cheeseburgers in Cafe World? Well at noon PST today, Facebook players will gain the new Super Sliders menu item. So what's so good about them? Like the Bacon Cheeseburgers, Super Sliders still cost only 14 Coins to purchase and take only five minutes to prepare. Yet the big difference is that each order creates 25 servings, 12 more than Bacon Cheeseburgers. So while patrons will still pay four Coins per serving, chefs will earn 100 Coins total for all those servings (versus 52 for Bacon Cheeseburgers).

We too are curious about why the new burgers have golden dollar signs on them. Regardless, Happy Super Slider Day!

Can Vegan Chefs Survive in Cafe World?

Living a vegetarian lifestyle takes a firm commitment in not only changing the food that one consumes but also the choices one makes in their daily life. Making such choices in real-life is one thing but what about living up to the vegetarian ideal in a Facebook foodie game like Cafe World?

Early on in the game, there are some good clear choices for vegetarians with Super Chunk Fruit Salad, Triple Berry Cheesecake and French Onion Soup (we'll assume the soup is vegan since beef broth is not an ingredient in the in-game recipe) and level 3 offers up Caramel Apples, Chips and Guacamole and Pumpkin Pie. The next vegetarian plate doesn't arrive until level 15 with Tony's Classic Pizza. Level 45 adds Overstuffed Peppers (which appear to be rice and not beef-filled) and the final dish, Powdered French Toast, arrives at level 43.

Yet there's a problem. All the vegetarian items take up to 12 hours to complete with the non-vegetarian dish Homestyle Pot Roast take two days to cook and offers up the most XP and coins in the game. So living up to the vegan ideal is also hard in Cafe World as players would have to return every 12 hours to serve Pumpkin Pie or Triple Berry Cheesecake. Can it be done? Yes but leveling up and maintaining your view will prove to be yet another test of wills.

Cafe's World Vegetarian Friendly Items (food/cooking time)
Super Chunk Fruit Salad -- 15 minutes
French Onion Soup -- 4 hours
Triple Berry Cheesecake -- 12 hours
Chips and Guacamole -- 3 minutes
    Caramel Apples -- 2 hours
    Pumpkin Pie -- 12 hours
    Tony's Classic Pizza -- 5 hours
    Overstuffed Peppers -- 12 hours
Powered French Toast -- 20 minutes

Which Thanksgiving Food for Cafe World?

[Update: Zynga confirmed with Games.com that Thanksgiving menu items will be coming to Cafe World]

For Americans, Thanksgiving Day (November 26) is a time to meet with friends and family to catch up on old times over food, drink and football. With Cafe World's makers being based in the U.S., players can expect new menu offerings to reflect some of the tastes of the season. What food would you like to see?

New Duds for Cafe World Chefs

Decking out your Cafe World chef adds an extra little bit of you to your burgeoning food empire. Now the Cafe World team has added several new clothing options that players of the Facebook game can use to cater their chef to their tastes. From a traditional waiter outfit (also available in yellow, blue, green and red) to new eye wear including slotted red glasses to a mystery mask, the new options look to make your favorite preparer of food into a veritable fashion palette.

Daily Wrap: FarmVille's Studded Chest Implant; There's 100K Apps for That

Don't have the time to search the web to find the best gaming news? Neither do we, so we boil down the best and make you a nice daily wrap so you (and we) can go back to playing Cafe World, Vampires, Pet Society and FarmVille.

    - Proclaiming your undying addiction to FarmVille is already apparent to your Facebook friend list. Now, there's a new and stylish way to proclaim your dedication to farming with a new series of crystal-studded shirts via the handmade marketplace called Etsy. If you dig it, KarmaCrystal's Shop offers six female shirts with different FarmVille messages. At $24.99, it's the perfect compliment to any farmer's overalls.

    - Apple's App Store, the digital storefront that supplies all those nifty "there's an app for that" apps for iPhone and iPod Touch owners made it to 100,000 available apps. With nearly a quarter of those apps being games, it's safe to assume that more will be on the way. (Joystiq)

    - Using your voice in social games might just be the next big innovation for social network games. While Vivox announced its first application to enable just that a few weeks ago, another social vocal application company named Blabbelon says that its ready to start the shouting competition. Considering that voice applications proclaiming innovation and integration with video games and social games isn't new, we're not going to proclaim an early winner in an application category that's still several whimpers away from a shout. (VentureBeat)

    - After Zynga tossed "scammy" deals that were available in many of the company's games, MySpace is beating Facebook to the potential "scam ban" in social networking services as its CEO updated his company's terms of service with "All MySpace users are entitled for a safe, scam-free application experience." Facebook changes are bound to come soon, bad news for scammers. (Business Insider)

    - Destined to become a new tool for getting game lovers into theaters, Warner Bros Pictures launched an online multiplayer game called 221B that promotes the December release of the company's new film, Sherlock Holmes, which releases December 25. The game, created by social gaming firm Hide& Seek is played out over eight chapters that lead up to the beginning of the movie. Might this be the new trend? (New Media Age)

Cafe World: Ode to Caramel Apples

Every Cafe World player has their "go to" food, a gastronomical tour de force that tantalizes the digital taste buds of cafe patrons and the hopes to earn \a 105 Buzz Rating. For me, it's those Caramel Apples. While they're not perfect for adding loads of Experience Points and only take two hours to prepare, the mix of sugar, caramel and what appears to be a Granny Smith apple is the type of dessert that you serve to kids and adults looking to journey back to a time when sticky sweets weren't viewed as a threat to expensive orthodontia.

You may like the Pumpkin Pie, but if you're looking for a sweeter treat, drop 75 coins and makes your next creation a Caramel Apple.

Now Gift Food, Flowers and Appetizers in Cafe World

Even more changes arrived in Café World today as players can now gift already prepared entrees, appetizers and even pink, blue or orange roses, just the thing to do for friends. There are some limitations though. Dishes like Spaghetti and Meatballs, which normally serves 275, only serves 40 when gifted. The same goes for our Experience Point flood favorite, Homestyle Pot Roast, which normally serves 1150, only serves 20. After letting players profit from all the drink gifts (which launched on October 30), letting players gift full entrees is a nice development.

Here's a list of all the items that are now available for gifting:

Hint: Planning Your Weekend Around Cafe World

Whether you bike, run, read or simply stay in bed late, weekends are "me" time for many. And while we love Cafe World, making sure that you're getting your dishes done and served takes away from that "me." So we've created a brief hint guide on how to plan out your weekend for the perfect balance of your virtual life and your real one.

    1) Thursday at Dawn
After work (or right before you leave), start cooking as many 24 hour / 1 day items as you can (depending on your level: Spitfire Roasted Chicken, Pumpkin Pie, Voodoo Chicken Salad and Vampire Staked Steak). We almost always choose Roasted Chicken since it serves 800 and makes 3200 coins each but if money is no object and you've cleared level 17, then the 900 coin expense of Herbed Halibut is an even better option that makes 4500 coins.

    2) Friday at Dawn
Following the same pattern as yesterday, you should be able to serve your 1 day items. As we've found, your cafe numbers may go down if there's only one food available but you want the food to last. Our suggestion is to start cooking many Homestyle Pot Roasts (available at level 3) since each they take 48 hours to complete and with 1150 servings per roast, you're going to eventually get a lot of food and experience points.

    3) Take a Day Off from Cafe World
Since your food won't be done until Sunday, there's no need to care for your cafe. Play other games like FarmVille, Mafia Wars or even do the unthinkable, reconnect with friends, loved ones, neighbors in real-life.

    4) Serve Roast
You can even be lazy about serving your roast since it takes more than a day to spoil. Optimally, you'd serve the roast around dinnertime on Sunday. If you have the time, serve up a some burgers (5 minutes) and other short items just to add some variety... at least until tomorrow.

Cafe World "Test Dish" Mystifies Virtual Chefs

Have you been one of the lucky few to spot a test dish in Cafe World? Several players have reported that they've been seeing something called a "Test Dish" appear on their stoves. After prepping the dish, there's no cooking involved -- it's ready to serve to customers right away. Here's what some on the Zynga forums have been seeing:

Cafe World Test Dishes mystify players
Example #1: What are [Test Dishes]? I was making some cheesecake, but instead of dealing with strawberries I was asked to sear some tuna and squeeze some lime juice?? The cooking time on the dish was 1 minute and it was called Test Dish. When it was done, I clicked on it, but it did not show up on my counters. - Mishi
Example #2: I made my chicken and chips and then I get an empty stove with sparkles over it, I clicked it and a "test dish" served (see pic). - MignonChampignon

    Example #3
: About a few minutes ago, I was prepping a bunch of fruit salads and all of a sudden, one of them didn't have the usual ingredients as a fruit salad would. I can't quite remember the first ingredient, but the second was tuna and the third was a lemon. Once it was prepared it was called 'Test Dish' with 15 servings. - ReiRe

There's a lot of speculation that the game developers are testing something and it's leaking into players live games. Have you seen this mysterious test dish yet?
