Recently, a Twitter user tweeted Sony's Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida asking if there would be a future update allowing gamers to disable the light bar. In response, Shuhei Yoshida simply tweeted back "no". This led other tweets asking about battery life but again according to Shuhei Yoshida, the LEDs within the light bar do not actually use much of the battery life.
This may be a relief to those who are worried about the battery life expectancy for the DualShock 4's controller but it doesn't resolve the issues of certain TV's reflecting the light.
