The social network will work directly with developers of such games, like ChronoBlade creator nWay, to help launch their games. The goal is to foster games that attract the core sect of game fans in addition to the stable of casual-friendly diversions that Facebook made its name on four years ago. Recently, the network introduced new categories in its App Center--"action" and "strategy"--to help fans of those games better find a match.
"You'll see a whole set of games hitting in the next two quarters in particular and throughout the year that really start to redefine what people think of Facebook games," head of game partnerships at Facebook Sean Ryan told Reuters in an interview. "It doesn't mean we're walking away from other games, but there's no question our focus for 2013 much of it will be about becoming a better platform for core gamers and developers who make those games."
Will Facebook's new focus help change the public perception of Facebook from a haven for virtual farmers to a "true" game platform in the eyes of the average Call of Duty fan? At the very least, it's clear that Facebook has accepted the challenge.
