Social games are on a meteoric rise in the MENA region, with Istanbul-based developer and publisher Peak Games being the fifth most popular game maker on Facebook in terms of daily players, according to AppData. To be clear: AppData tracks developers based on global metrics, so the MENA region is clearly one of the fastest-growing areas in social gaming.
So, yeah, Zynga localizing to the Arabic-speaking audience with its most ambitious Facebook game yet says a lot. Not only is this a major win for Arabic-speaking FarmVille fans, but it's a fine way for the company to slice off a bit of that pie. What with a major chunk of its executive team abandoning ship, Zynga has seen better days.
Nudging its way into the fastest-growing markets could certainly help start closing that wound. Of course, Zynga isn't satisfied with going after just the areas with the strongest growth--it wants a slice of all the pies. That must be why FarmVIlle 2 is available in Danish, Dutch, German, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and traditional Chinese, too. Must be.
