At this point, anything beats shelling out the moola, right? According to Mashable, Zynga is testing a new method of providing CityVille players with extra energy while making some coin at the same time. The website has dubbed it "reward advertising," and it makes sense. Rather than dish out Facebook Credits, some players have been offered the option to "Watch Ad" in exchange for some an energy boost.
While we've yet to personally see the "new feature," as the game calls it (it's more like a test), but Mashable reports that the test has been in the works since December. Zynga enlisted Coca-Cola, MasterCard and the DVD release of the 20th Century Fox film, "What's Your Number?" as sponsors.
When select players reached the end of their energy supply, they were either given a chance to watch a trailer for "What's Your Number?" or fill out a MasterCard survey in exchange or some free energy. According to Mashable, Zynga has seen success with the test, and plans to roll it out as a core feature to FarmVille and Empires & Allies soon.
