Earlier this evening, we brought you an in-depth look at the new Orchard Goals in FrontierVille. This new building will allow you to store your fruit trees and harvest from them in bulk, saving you time along with clearing up tons of space on your Homestead (a theme Zynga seems to have adopted recently, much to our excitement). The Orchard itself must be built as any other building in the game, by starting with its base.
You must be level 26 or higher to receive the Orchard feature. As you might expect, once you build the base, you'll need to collect six all new ingredients: 15 each of Cuttings, Rootstocks and Grafting Waxes, and 10 each of Insect Sprays, Pruners and Fencing. For a complete look at how the Orchard works, meet us behind the break.
Once you've collected all of the ingredients necessary to complete the building of your Orchard, you'll be left with an open square that can hold up to 250 trees by default. It doesn't matter which kind of tree you put inside it, but the tree must be fully grown before it can be stored. To grow the new trees on the free gifts page - the Sour Cherry, Green Apple and White Peach Trees - along with those in the store (the Almond and Plum Trees, along with the Raspberry Bush), you'll need to collect water from your friends to grow them. You can also collect water by claiming the Daily Bonus from a fully built Water Well (A-HA! The Well finally serves a purpose!).
But wait - do you have more than 250 trees on your Homestead, or close to it? Don't worry about running out of space, as Zynga has built in four capacity upgrades to the Orchard. Each upgrade will add an additional 250 tree slots on your Orchard. Again, you can upgrade four times, with each upgrade giving you 250 more slots - that's room for 1,000 more trees, in addition to the 250 you're given by default! To upgrade, you'll simply need to complete the steps above, collecting all six of the building ingredients as you did while initially building the Orchard.
Sure, collecting dozens of items with friends will be a time consuming process, but just think - these expansions have been built into the feature, meaning that Zynga actually gave some forethought to our needs! We could be waiting weeks or months for storage upgrades on the Orchard, but instead, we can undertake them as soon as we want. I, for one, am not going to complain about that.
As usual, this feature is on a slow rollout, so you may not have access to the Orchard in your game just yet. Keep checking back though and it will eventually roll out to you as well. In the meantime, you might as well throw all of those trees in your inventory onto your land to start building them into adults. That way, you can truly take advantage of this new feature when it launches.
