At first glance, My Sweet Shop has an appealing aesthetic with a peaceful color palate and crisp interface. When you really look twice, however, the game has an odd top-down camera angle and the game isn't all that fun to play. It's basically Ranch Town, but instead of a ranch, you're in a candy shop. Instead of clicking on stoves and ovens to make your dishes such as Cafe World, you actually have to farm your ingredients and combine them in machines. There is really no difference to this game over Ranch Town, aside from displaying your resulting products on a counter for guests to purchase. My Sweet Shop has a grid that the mouse snaps to while planting and harvesting, and it feels more like a clickable game board than a typical farming game. Personally, I just wasn't a huge fan of the gameplay.
It seems that My Sweet Shop is in very early beta, because there are some missing pieces. First of all, avatar customization is non-existent. You pick male or female, and that is it. Secondly, there is no decoration whatsoever. The only thing the shop contains is ingredients and machines. You cannot make your shop "your own" at all, which is a big missing feature as personalization in social games is a huge driver for retention. The game just doesn't feel 'complete' or fun yet.
There are plenty of bakery and sweet themed games that are doing this right. Baking Life, Cafe Life, and Chocolatier are three that come to mind. Our recommendation is to skip this game and try one of the others, and just give it time to mature and evolve into a game that that will be as sweet as its name implies.
