PetVille has kicked all our flower pots to the curb and is using flower power to further the social aspect of its gameplay. What does that mean, you ask? Well, previously, the game equipped each room with a free flower pot of your choice, and flowers you can buy that'd wilt at different rates to offer varying Love points (i.e. XP). But now, each pot is the same, and you need to earn those flowers the hard way -- which in social gaming terms, means begging and gifting.

But the new system is much more nuanced than that. Sure, flowers have now become another commodity to chase in-game, but being allowed to craft your own bouquets by dragging one's mouse around is such a nice touch, it's almost a game of its own! As a matter of fact, in Japan, flower arrangement is called ikebana, and considered a serious art discipline.

PetVille starts you off with a new green flower pot for every pot you had in your pet's rooms. Instead of buying flowers and waiting them to wilt to drop a bonus, the objective of this new system is to arrange flowers each day so that when the Golden Butterfly makes its daily rounds, it'll be the one to drop you a bonus. This Golden Butterfly Reward is totally dependent on how many flowers you have in your vase. The more flowers, the more coins you'd earn. Each flower bouquet will get one visit from the Butterfly each day. The bouquets will also stay fresh for 2 days. The game starts you off with 5 Purple Tulips, 5 Pink Lilies, and 5 White Daisies.

Once your bouquet is ready, you won't be able to change it for 2 days, so you should spend time getting even more flowers for next time. There's two ways to do this: 1) Click on your flower vase and select "Ask For Flowers" to post a notice on your Facebook Wall, or 2) Have your friends regularly gift you some through the gifts page. There are currently 12 flowers available for gifting: Baby's Breath, Blue Iris, Green Fern, Orange Poppy, Pink Lily, Purple Iris, Purple Tulip, Red Lily, Red Poppy, White Daisy, White Tulip, and Yellow Daffodils.
The disappointing thing about the gifts feature is that you only get 3 flowers per gifting. (But frankly, I only got 1 flower, cause you can't have a new feature without some new glitches, am I right?). Seeing how friends are limited to one gifting per day, and that the 15 flowers the game started me off with wasn't enough to satisfactorily decorate more than 3 pots, I think PetVille should consider making the flower gifting portions larger.
