"According to Hallmark, approx. 200 million Valentines are exchanged annually. Since FarmVille launched their special V-day exchange at 6 a.m. yesterday, FarmVille players have sent out 220 million valentines to each other (in just an 18 hour time period)," a Zynga rep tells us. "There's a lot of love going on in FarmVille right now."
But ... wait. That means virtual Valentine's greetings (from one game, no less) have managed to edge out real-life Valentine's Day greetings in just over a day. Just imagine how many virtual V-day items will be sent in all of the Facebook games, and how that number will compare to real-life Valentine's.
What does it all mean? It's just further evidence that we're over the whole card, stamp and mail scenario. Why go through all that trouble when you can just send someone an equally funny card via email? C'mon, don't be ashamed. Everybody's doing it.
