"We're excited to offer a fun and meaningful way for our growing user base to do good. This is the perfect opportunity for our players to support the armed forces in celebration of Veterans Day," Rachel Thomas, VP of marketing says, "With the virtual goods market topping $1 billion in 2010, the sale of virtual goods has a huge potential to drive charitable contributions."
In Sorority Life, you will be able to buy a boyfriend wearing fatigues (which costs 19 Brownie Points) and an American Flag tattoo in Mobsters (for 20 Favor Points). You can earn the Brownie/Favor Points by playing these two games for free -- this takes a while, though -- or you can buy 21 points for $5.
Gaming for good seems to be a growing trend in with social game companies, encouraging players to pay cash for virtual goods and then donating part of the proceeds to a cause. Playfish has partnered with the World Wildlife Federation in a similar fashion and Zynga's Sweet Seeds program in FarmVille raised nearly 500K for several Haitian charities.
